Is ancient magic more powerful that “modern” magic?

well yeah, of course ancient magic is more powerful than modern... and in this case i think that the fact that voldemort didn't know much bout it had a really important part in the story!

I believe the ANCIENT magic is more powerful than MODERN magic. You will find so many examples around you. Think about medicines. HERBEL & ANCIENT NATURAL medicines are much effective than modern PILLS.

Because wizards didn't waste their time on the things like Voldemort and had lots of time to think of something :)) that's just my opinion, but this question really interesting and confusing...

I think that modern magic is more powerfull, after all they evolve their magic all the time and come up with new spells. But since much of the knowledge about ancient magic have been forgotten(by most) it appears more powerfull. If you don't have knowledge of a spell then you can't fight it and if you havn't considered the possibility of a spell it will appear more effective. Another way to see it is that the very few ancient spells we know of are the ones that havn't yet been surpassed by any newer spell. In that way to look at it these specific spells are in fact the most powerfull ones in thier cathegory. However, just because they are the best spells yet doesn't meen ancient magic is more powerfull in general, with only a few spells yet not outdone by modern ones it is definetly not. (for the football fans: Just like Pelé being the best player of all times doesn't make football from his era better than today's football)
