Harry Potter Question

why not a portkey....

ok here's my doubt. in deathly hallows they take harry on sirius bike to tonks house inorder to get the portkey to the burrow. my question is why cant they arrange for a portkey in a place very close to privet drive that will take harry to the burrow. why is all this beating about the bush for?? it would have been much simpler, safer that way isnt it?

if u know the answer plz tell me i'm really puzzled by this!

A portkey would show up as 'underage magic' (remember Harry is not yet 17 at this point), as would apparition, and they couldn't let the Ministry of Magic get anywhere near Harry/give them any chance at all to call him in/expel him, so they used the only type of (magical) transport that the MOM could not detect, flew him and his decoys to 'safe-houses' to get a portkey from there.

Hope that helps :)

Great reply ! Moody explains this precisely : any means like Apparition, Floo and Portkey are under the control of the Ministry of Magic, now infiltrated by the DE. He's aware of that, as is the rest of the Order. Harry has still the Trace on him. Like Moody said in the movie (if I remember well), Harry sneezes and the Ministry knows it.

because the house wasnt a safe place, the plan was taking the seven harry's to a safe place and using the portkey there.
(Thats my opinion, im not really sure.)

well, everywhere was like being watched by death eaters, so they chose those specific locations because they were protected. remember? the death eaters couldnt go into them.

Well the Dursleys' house was not safe nor the surroundings...they would have caught Harry because of the magic in the portkey...

When you're being hunted by a giant mob of people wanting to kill you, wouldn't the logical thing to do be as far away as possible, and to do everything in your power to throw them off? Remember, they didn't know that someone had told Voldemort that they had changed the date of Harry leaving. They thought it would be safer to travel far away to random places and use a portkey to go somewhere else.
